Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad—the Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways said that the cause of the train accident on Thursday was a cylinder blast.
The minister said that the two cylinders and a stove got blasted while the train was on its way. The minister claims that the blast took lives of as many as 62 people on spot and 33 others got injuries.
The Railways Minister announced 1.5 million rupees for the families of each victim. On the other hand, 0.5 million for the people who got injuring in the train accident.
He further said that the officials of the Pakistan Army have reached the spot and started the rescue operation. “I am also thankful to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) who arranged the transportation for me as well and I am leaving for Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan from Noor Khan Airbase,” he added.
He further said that the mismanagement from our side was that we weren’t able to scan the cylinders at the railway station and the passengers have managed to get the cylinders to the train with them as we don’t have the scanners available on the small railway stations.
