Punjab Govt to Impose lockdown in few areas of Lahore post-midnight

It has been decided by the Punjab government to impose a complete lockdown in few areas of Lahore amidst the rising coronavirus cases that are being reported from the provincial capital. This was confirmed by the Health Minister Yasmin Rashid

The minister during a press conference said, “Many areas of Lahore will be shut down 12am onwards from tomorrow.”

She said that the areas that will experience full lockdown are Shahdra, Shad Bagh,  Mazang, Harbanspura, Old Lahore, Nishtar Ground, Cantt.

Similarly there are a few areas in Gulberg that will be closed as well, along with a few societies in the Iqbal Town, Lahore.

The minister clarified, “Food stores and pharmacies will remain open in these areas.”

Again, the minister stressed the importance of following the standard operating procedures announced by the government. She said that the virus can be controlled by 50% just by wearing a face mask.

In Pakistan, Punjab and Sindh are the most affected provinces. In Punjab more than 54000 COVID-19 cases were reported till Monday, 15th June.

Earlier on, the Health Minister Yasmin Rashid gave hint regarding imposing a lockdown in areas that had a higher number of coronavirus cases. She also gave a warning regarding the rise in the cases. She said that the final decision for imposing a lockdown would be taken by the cabinet committee.
