Punjab government is going after 200 Pharmaceutical companies.
The Punjab Quality Control Board (PQCB) is going after 200 medicine producing companies soon after the National Task Force pointed out that fake drugs are spreading everywhere in the province.
Moreover, seventy four cases have been sent to the drug courts for prosecution.
The NTF was established by the DRAP (Drug Regulation Authority Pakistan) just to ensure that the Drug Act 1976 and DRAP Act 2012 are imposed in spirit and letter. The data regarding the manufacturing of drugs among all the provinces is being shared by the task force.
And all those companies whose data has been shared by the NTF are initiated with legal proceeding by the PQCB.
In the last 2 months 23 pharmaceutical companies have been sealed for manufacturing fake drugs. Out of 23, 21 were producing fake herbal drugs and 2 of them were allocating fake medicine in the market. Also 130 samples were collected of these herbal and allopathic medicines for the tests.
Out of 23, 19 of these sealed plants are in Lahore. 12 are in Sundar Industrial state, 3 in Thokar Niaz, 2 each at Ferozpur road and Sheikhupura. 2 were also located in Multan, 1 more in Sheikhupura and 1 in Bhawalpur.
