A meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar approved the establishment of Overseas Pakistanis Commission South Punjab. According to a statement issued by the provincial government, a meeting of the Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission was held in the Chief Minister’s Office under the chairmanship of Usman Bazdar in which the performance of the commission was reviewed in detail.
From the meeting, Chief Minister Usman Bazdar said that the establishment of the Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) in South Punjab would bring a lot of relief to the people of the area. According to the details, It was decided in the meeting that OPC desks would be opened in all the service centers established in Punjab.
The Chief Minister said that the opening of OPC desks in service centers in different districts would solve the problems of overseas Pakistanis at the grass-root level. In addition, the meeting approved amendments to the OPC Act 2014, while the final approval of the amendments to the Act will be given by the Punjab Cabinet.
The Chief Minister directed the advisory councils to be constituted soon under the rules and regulations and said that reputable personalities should be included in the advisory councils and members should be appointed in the district committees as per the rules and regulations.
The Chief Minister directed to refer the matter of allotment of allowances to the employees of Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission to the Cabinet Committee on Finance and Development and to re-submit the case of recruitment to vacant posts in the Commission.
The Chief Minister further directed that pending cases of Pakistanis abroad should be dealt with expeditiously. He said that Pakistanis living abroad are our capital. Overseas Pakistanis cannot forget the services of Pakistanis for strengthening the country’s economy will ensure the protection of rights and property of Pakistanis at all costs.
The Chief Minister was informed during the briefing that the Commission has so far resolved 12532 complaints while necessary action is being taken on the pending complaints and property worth billions of rupees has been relinquished. Advocate General Punjab, Additional Chief Secretary, Inspector General Punjab, Vice Chairman Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission Wasim Akhtar, Members Punjab Assembly Omar Tanveer Butt, Khayal Ahmed Castro, Shahina Karim, Chairman Planning and Development, Additional Chief Secretary Home, other members of the Commission and related Officials attended the meeting – Senior members of the Board of Revenue attended the meeting via video link.
