Punjab government bans Yaum-e-Ali processions and gatherings due to coronavirus crisis

The PTI-led provincial government of Punjab has announced to impose a ban on Youm-e-Ali processions across the province due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a notification issued by the home department of Punjab, the provincial government has allowed the holding of majalis in Imam Bargahs and houses only after observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the provincial authorities.

The notification further said that the majalis can only be held for one hour. In case of non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), the organizers of the majalis will be held accountable.

The notification further added that the distance of the six-feet should be maintained between the participants of the majalis at the imam bargahs. On the other hand, the children and the adults over the age of 50 will not be allowed to attend the gatherings.

It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial took these steps as the confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the country have increased to 35,000 on Thursday with more than 730 deaths.
