On Sunday, the government of Punjab made a decision to close down all the Shopping malls and markets of the province in order to avoid the virus from spreading.
As per the sources, all the malls and markets will be closed 2-3 days before Eid-ul-Azha. Moreover, Usman Buzdar Chief Minister Punjab directed for the imposition of a smart lockdown in the province during the Eid festival.
Although, the utility stores, tandoors, cattle markets, medical stores, and milk shops will be allowed to open. A notification will be provided very soon in this regard.
According to the Chief Secretary Punjab, there is a need to impose a smart lockdown during Eid-ul-Azha to reduce the COVID-19 cases in the country.
Recently, the government decided to impose a lockdown in all the hotspot areas of the province on Eid-ul-Azha.
A meeting was chaired by Jawad Rafique Punjab Chief Secretary to review all the preventive measures against the coronavirus before Eid.
Also, all the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) provided for the cattle markets were reviewed in the meeting. As far as the final decision is concerned, it has been decided by the deputy commissioner that the working hours for cattle markets will extend in different cities of Punjab.
Earlier, the lockdown was imposed in 4 cities of Punjab.
Within the last 24 hours, 1,226 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country which took total tally of cases to 273, 112. 35 people lost their lives due to the virus in the last 24 hours.
