PTA Registers 44 million IMEIs of Mobile Phones


The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority—PTA has registered 44 million IMEIs of mobile phones.

PTA working under the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication has registered 44 million IMEIs since the start of this year that is January 15, 2019 and has deposited Rs.5 billion to the national exchequer on that account.

As per the one year performance report of the present government, for controlling the menace of mobile theft as well as smuggling of the used mobile devices in the nation, the device identification, registration and blocking system—DIRBS had also been formed and is made operational on the orders of the federal cabinet.

Via adopting the austerity steps, the IT ministry and its linked organizations saved a total of Rs.64.33 million from its allotted budget, which was deposited with the national exchequer.

Under the Clean and Green Pakistan Drive, more than 100,000 trees were planted by the Special Communication Organization—SCO in the areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
