The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed that the department received as many as 500 complaints against the social networking application that allow people to make their own videos, TikTok in the past month.
People of Pakistan want the application—that has more than 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store—to be banned across the country.
The telecommunication authority, in its statement, said that PTA is happy with the cooperation it is receiving from the TikTok app makers. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority further said that the company which made the mobile application is fully supportive of any requests to delete any unethical content.
The officials of the PTA said that there are no plans under consideration to ban the social networking application in Pakistan.
TikTok—owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based tech company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming—allows the users to create and share the short-form videos through the mobile app.
The application is used to create short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. The app was launched in 2017 for both operating systems iOS and Android for the markets outside of China.
