The FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) was collecting taxes on phones imported from outside the country under the baggage rule, according to which one foreign passenger could carry one duty-free cell phone to Pakistan. But now some officials say that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have discussed this thing with the FBR and have asked them to treat all the mobile phones according to the baggage rules before July 1st, 2019.
Some sources also revealed that the FBR was charging taxes on those phones also which were brought to the country under the baggage rule before July 1st. This forced PTA to decide on collecting taxes on the phones importing after 1st July.
As per the data revealed, PTA has been blocking a total of 10,27,531 devices on a rolling basis after sending them a warning notification of 60 days. They also informed all the consumers that their phones would get blocked because of non-registration.
