The Chinese video-sharing app, TikTok, is now banned in Pakistan. The decision was made on account of low control over objectionable content.
Pakistani officials earlier were trying to contact TikTok to build a strong policy over immoral content. However, after the unsuccessful attempts, Pakistan decided to ban the app in the country.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed that they were receiving a number of complaints against indecent content on TikTok. PTA is of the view that no such platform could be promoted in the country which damages the reputation of the nation and the people.
However, PTA is also open for discussion with the Chinese video-sharing app and could unblock the use if they receive positive feedback from the company.
Earlier this year, Bigo was also banned on account of no control over the content. PUBG was also banned in Pakistan this year but was unblocked after a little while.
The officials from PTA also informed that TikTok in Pakistan has been widely used and around 39 million downloads were recorded until now.
