PS5 Firmware Update March 2021 Should Fix 4K-HDR And 120Hz Problems

PS5

Three months after the launch, the PlayStation 5 is not only struggling with delivery problems, but also with technical defects. The combination of 4K-UHD, 120 Hz and HDR causes problems on many TV sets. A firmware update in March 2021 should help.

Owners of various Sony, LG and Samsung televisions are currently unable to use the full range of functions of the PS5 console. The high 4K resolution including High Dynamic Range (HDR) can currently only be reproduced at a maximum of 60 Hz on many models, despite HDMI 2.1.

If you want to play games with up to 120 Hz, you have to do without an extended contrast range. However, a solution to the problem is in the works. According to the Samsung support forum, a firmware update for the next-gen console will be offered for download in March, which should help.

120 Hz HDR update in March, VRR and ALLM still questionable

In an official statement, Samsung states: ” The error has been localized and Sony will probably release an update in March to make 4K 120 Hz HDR possible. Please keep the Playstation up to date. The TV does not need any software. Update. The TV doesn’t need to be repaired either, so you don’t need to contact support. “Since owners of the Xbox Series X did not report any errors regarding the problem, it was already assumed that this would only be possible with the help of a PlayStation 5 update solve is.

It is not yet known whether the 120 Hz HDR problems can only be solved in relation to Samsung televisions. It remains to be seen whether the firmware update will also improve playback on LG and Sony TVs. Sony still leaves open the overdue provision of functions such as the variable frame rate (VRR) and automatic switching to a TV mode with low latency (ALLM). And while technical errors should “already” be eliminated in March, the delivery problems for the PS5 could persist for several months, as chip supplier AMD admits.

  1. Well. This was all lies for ages. Waited anxiously as a Samsung TV owner and hopes of a vrr update. Nothing. Makes me think Xbox might be the future. Can’t see why vrr can’t be out of box when Xbox did it.
