President announces a special remission in prisoners sentences on Eid

On the advice of PM Imran Khan, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has announced to grant a special remission in the sentences of the prisoners in the county’s jails on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Dr. Arif Alvi has announced the special remission in the sentences up to 90 days as per the nature of their crimes.

On the other hand, the Interior Ministry on Friday had issued a notification in this regard.

According to the details, it doesn’t apply to those prisoners convicted for the charges of murder, espionage, activities against the state, sectarianism, adultery, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, culpable homicide and acts related to terrorists and also those undergoing sentences under the Foreigners Act, 1946.

On May 17, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had thanked the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan for releasing many Pakistani prisoners from several jails in UAE.

PM Khan in a statement said, “We value the kind gesture of the government of United Arab Emirates.”

Mr. Khan further said that the measures taken by the government of the UAE would help in stabilizing the bilateral relations between the two countries.
