Police Arrested Careem Captain’s Accused Murderer

Islamabad Police on Saturday informed that it has caught the alleged man who killed and looted the driver of the online ride-booking service—Careem. The Careem Captain was found dead in Islamabad on Thursday while he was still on duty.

As per the details the suspect—Atta Ullah who is of twenty-six years of age, opened fire on the cab captain—Junaid Mustafa, as the victim resisted in handing over the car. Atta booked the cab via the mobile application but took the cab driver as a hostage for the car stealing.

During a media briefing, Islamabad Police claimed that it caught the accused via mobile data that Careem earlier shared with the concerned authorities.

The incident occurred in G-13. Capt. (Retd.) Mushtaq Ahmed—Deputy Commissioner took notice of the incident when the issue was brought on social media. The DC informed that once the incident was reported, the authorities met with the company management and a meeting was conducted. In the meantime, the SHO of Golra was instructed to start the investigations into the crime.

The deputy commissioner mentioned that Careem has assured the administration that they would be providing a monetary compensation to the family of the deceased. He further informed that the company has this policy of paying rupees one million in compensation if any captain dies in the line of duty. He added that the administration would make sure that the payment of the compensation is done.

As per reports, Atta Ullah is already involved in a car snatching activity near the F-10 sector of Islamabad.

According to the police, the suspect told the deceased captain—Junaid Mustafa near G-13 to give him the keys to the car at gunpoint. But, Junaid resisted and denied the demand of the gunman, on this the accused opened the fire and the captain died on spot.

The colleagues of Junaid in protest blocked the Kashmir Highway for hours on Friday demanding for the arrest of the criminal behind this incident.

As per the official post of Careem on Facebook, it is thinking and planning about forming “Safety Committees” in each city that it is presently providing its services.

These committees would be including the Customers, Captains and the law enforcement agencies who would be making some strategy for the protection of both the customers and captains from such crimes in future.

At the moment, not much details are known relating the Safety Committees but Careem says to share it soon with the community.
