The government has dissolved the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council—PMDC with its offices temporarily closed to ensure protection of the essential records and assents of the council.
President Dr. Arif Alvi inked a new ordinance captioned Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 2019 making it a must to dissolve PMDC.
The ordinance is believed to start a new era or regulation and control of the medical profession by the formation of a uniform standard of medical education and training as well as the recognition of qualifications in the field of medicine and industry.
The offices would remain closed for one week. The Pakistan Medical Commission would be a body comprising of the Medical and Dental Council, the National Medical and Dental Academic Board, and the National Medical Authority, which would act as a secretariat of the commission.
The government of Pakistan has taken immediate notice to protect the hugely significant records regarding licensing and registration of all the medical and dental practitioners in Pakistan as well as the records of the medical and dental educational institutions in view of the approval of the new Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance.
The new commission is anticipated to begin its operations within a week. For assuring that no inconvenience is caused to the present medical and dental admissions, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination would be taking the necessary steps for the supervision and overseeing of the admission process for assuring it is completed properly.
