PMD Predicts Heatwave in Karachi for Next 6 to 8 Days

On Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heatwave in Karachi for the span of the next 6 to 8 days. As per the predictions, the temperatures are to rise to 40-42ºC.

According to the reports, the Met Office has forecasted that a high-pressure area built over Central Asia would lead to the wind flow from the North to the Northwest over Sindh which includes Karachi.

As per a notification released by the department, under its effect, the condition of the heatwave is expected to remain over Karachi during the span of the next 6 to 8 days with the temperatures increasing to 40-42ºC.

The Meteorological Department has asked the authorities to take the needed steps and has advised people to take precautions in order to avoid open sun exposure during the peak hours of heat which are between 11 am to 4 pm.

It further added that the wind would blow majorly from the North to the Northwest during the above specified period.

Karachi also experienced a heatwave spell in the month of June during which the temperature had increased up to 40ºC.

Back in the summers of 2015, the city witnessed a deadly heatwave and that claimed the lives of more than one thousand three hundred people in just 3 days span.
