Prime Minister Imran Khan would be inaugurating the Sir Syed Express Train service on the 30th of June. The train would operate between Rawalpindi and Karachi.
While talking to media at the Rawalpindi Railway Station, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed—the Federal Minister for Railways said that Sir Syed Express would be travelling via Faisalabad.
He said that he has started 30 new trains during his current tenure as the railway’s minister. He further informed that the one-year performance report of Pakistan Railways (PR) would be presented to the public on the 24th of August.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that the railways’ track in the nation had become weary and old and on completion of the Main Line-1 Project, a new track would be laid from Peshawar to Karachi for modernising and dualizing the track for running the train safely and fast.
While responding to a question, he said that the 43 km track assigned to Karachi Circular Railways would be revived.
The minister said that the Railways might issue railway bonds for overcoming its financial crisis, as the finance division had reduced its budget from Rs.40 to Rs.50 billion to Rs.16billion.
He said that the dualization and modernisation of the main line track from the route between Karachi to Peshawar and the construction of Leh Expressway for checking up on the road traffic congestion in the Pindi area were the ambitions of his life.
He said that the Pakistan Railways has given a 50percent discount on the Eid Special Trains despite having revenue deficit.
He informed that strict action would be taken against travellers without tickets and said that corruption would not be tolerated at any level.
He said that a system was being formed for increasing the revenue of Pakistan Railways from its own resources.
