PM Khan would be distributing the Ehsaas undergraduate scholarships today to the first batch of the deserving students under the Ehsaas undergraduate programme, as per the reports of local media.
Nearly 24 billion rupees would be spent on this 4-year programme for supporting the 200,000 students, out of which half are girl, from the less-income households.
As part of the Ehsaas scholarships policy, 2 per cent scholarships would be awarded especially to the students with special needs.
Overall 50,000 scholarships would be awarded on a per-year basis for enhancing the financial access to the higher education to the deserving students.
The special assistant to PM on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr Sania Nishtar had said that the programme would help in distributing the opportunity of acquiring higher education to a total of 200,000 students from the less-privileged areas over a span of 4 years. She also said that a 2 per cent quota has been assigned for the special persons.
For helping the deserving youth to obtain higher education, a total of 50,000 scholarships would be given on a per-year basis. Dr Nishtar further explained that the academic performance of a student would decide whether he or she would continue on getting financial aid in the future or not.
She also said that the scholarship covers a complete tuition fee and offers Rs.4,000 monthly stipend.
It is pertinent to mention that PM Khan had launched the programme back in the month of November in 2019.
