It has been announced that the present PTI government wants to increase the national air carrier’s fleet. PIA will have 14 new aircraft by 2023.
Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan said, “We have developed a business plan for PIA, approved by the prime minister, under which we are going to increase PIA’s fleet from the current 31 to 45 aircraft.”
Member of the Punjab Assembly Ammar Sadeeq Khan was also present.
The minister said that the aircraft will be bought rather than being obtained on dry or wet lease. Basically, a dry lease is a long-term arrangement in which aircraft is given without a crew. Maintenance and insurance to the airline on payment is done on a monthly or yearly basis.
Wet lease, on the other hand, is a short-term arrangement under which a company provides aircraft with its crew, maintenance and insurance and the payment are done on the basis of the hours operated.
Mr. Sarwar said that presently PIA is operating 31 planes on national and global routes. PIA fleet will be increased to 45 planes.

The minister said, “These plans were made functional by the PIA utilizing its own resources. No grant was taken from the government.”
