PIA (Pakistan International Airline) aircraft was stuck at the Quetta airport due to heavy snowfall in the city. The plane could not be rescued as there was no arrangement of de-icing at the airport as per the PIA spokesperson.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is responsible to provide such facilities like de-icing at the airports, but the Authorities failed to do so. The moment this aircraft landed at the airport carrying a flight from Jeddah since then the plane was left stranded. And as there is no facility provided by the CAA for de-icing, they had to remove the ice from the aircraft themselves, according to the spokesperson of PIA.
The weather conditions in Quetta have forced the airline to cancel all the scheduled domestic flights to Quetta. PK-325 and 326 Islamabad-Quetta-Islamabad have been canceled by PIA. Also PK-310 and 311 from Karachi-Quetta-Karachi and PK-864 from Quetta-Karachi has been canceled.
The national airline has apologized from the passengers who were travelling in these flights and also they have been advised to contact the call center before leaving the airport.
PIA also rescheduled some of the flights for Dubai due to the heavy spell of rain. Flights coming from Peshawar and Karachi have been canceled and the passengers have been adjusted in the flights from Lahore to Islamabad. It is decided that a bigger plane will be used for the rescheduled flights which means instead of Airbus A-320, Boeing 777 will be used.
