An audit report revealed that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated 46 flights without a single passenger. From Islamabad Airport 46 flights took off in the year 2016-17 in which no passenger was on board.
It was revealed in the audit report the national air carrier suffered from a loss of Rs180 million due to no travelers in its 46 flights.
Furthermore, there were 36 additional flights on Haj and Umrah routes in which no passengers were on board.
The administration was informed about this matter, however, no inquiry was conducted. This in itself has raised eyebrows.
In the official documents, the issue has been called an act of negligence, as per the audit report.
It is pertinent to mention here that in order to reduce the operational cost, the national carrier laid off almost 1000 surplus employees last month.
