PIA, the national carrier of Pakistan is cutting off its workforce by 50%. PIA will divide its employees between the core and non-core business sections.
As per a local media outlet, PIA is reducing its workforce by starting a voluntary retirement scheme and Golden Shake Hand.
In these schemes, PIA will give its employees a one-time payment and just fire them. These employees will not be given any pension or any medical or free ticket benefit.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has approved this business plan and currently, the Ministry of Finance is considering it. Presently, the Finance Ministry is analyzing the business plan put forward by PIA and the money that will be needed to implement this plan.
It must be noted here that currently, the total number of employees iisIA are 18000. Now with this number of employees, PIA will remain in a loss. Thus the company has decided to fire 8000 employees and bring total employment to 10000.
Furthermore, PIA will be divided in to two parts, one is core business and the other is a non-core business. In this division, 5000 PIA employees will be removed from the PIA pay structure.
In the non-core business the engineering, flight kitchen service, technical support on ground, printing press, cabin cleansing will become separate companies. They will not come under PIA.
The core business of PIA will include aircraft, flight operations, security, marketing & PR and passenger handling.
It is pertinent to mention here that PIA is also spending $1.5 million per plane to change and revamp its aircraft. The airline has decided to display Pakistan’s national animal Markhor on the exterior of the aircraft.
PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar said, “This is the first brand change in 10 years. Markhor is our national animal which can be found in the mountainous regions of Pakistan.”
