After getting a go-ahead from the United States, PIA has operated a direct flight between Pakistan and the US. The PIA flight PK-8711 left for New Jersey from the federal capital, it was carrying 207 passengers.
Abdullah Hafeez, the spokesperson of PIA said in a statement that this was the first time a Pakistani aircraft ran a direct flight to this destination.
Since 9/11, the US had placed a ban on all the direct flights from the different nations which include Pakistan owing to security reasons.
PIA has been granted special permission by the US department of transportation to run 12 round-trips, 1-way passenger or cargo flights until the 29th of April 2021.
The management of the national flag carrier would be making special security arrangements which include the scanning of the passengers and the crew members before they board the flight.
On the other hand, Dr Zafar Mirza has urged the public to make use of surgical or medical or homemade cloth masks when they go to crowded places. He has said that wearing the N-95 masks is not necessary for the general public, the N-95 masks are for the frontline health care workers who are working in closer proximity with the COVID-19 patients, who are in critical condition.
