Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) faced yet another critical issue, the national carrier was refused by the Aviation Fuel Supplier, World Fuel Services (WFS) to fill PIA’s aircraft because of non-payment to the supplier. PIA’s three flights were affected by this decision of WFS and now stuck at Dubai Airport. PIA’s Rota has been badly affected and might delay more flights ahead.
The World Fuel Services (WFS) is a registered vendor of PIA which supplies aviation fuel to the company. WFS has been warning the company to pay its dues on time or face the supply suspension until the payment confirmed. On Monday, WFS cut the fuel supply to PIA planes at Dubai airport—sources told Propakistani.
Three flights from Dubai airport were not able to fly at their scheduled time. The flight PK-212 for Islamabad, PK-204 for Lahore and PK-284 for Peshawar are still waiting for fuel to be filled in their tanks. Hundreds of passengers facing difficulties and waiting at the airport.
According to a PIA spokesperson the management is in contact with WFS and the issue would be resolved in the coming hours hopefully. The whole airline’s schedule has been disturbed due to the ongoing issue, flights from the hub ‘Karachi’ including PK-897, PK-397 and PK-369 have been canceled and PK-307 and PK-309 delayed. Several other flights from Lahore and Islamabad airport were also affected due to it.
A similar incident happened on May 1, when FBR froze all PIA accounts due to not payment of taxes. The company delayed in paying their taxes to the authority, as a result, FBR froze their accounts however, PIA paid the partial payment to FBR to unfreeze their accounts.
