The flight operations suspension of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been extended till 31st March. Due to an increase in the coronavirus-related deaths in the neighboring country, this decision has been taken by PIA as a preventive measure.
PIA earlier halted its flights till 15th March. It was extended as the virus has spread to more countries.
Coronavirus is rapidly spreading in all four bordering countries of Pakistan. China has reported the highest death toll of over 3000, followed by Iran with over 100 deaths.

India has also become the victim of the virus as there 30 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country in just 6 days. Afghanistan does not have the medical facilities to detect and fight coronavirus but many suspected cases of the novel virus have been reported in the country.
Successful measures taken by Pakistan have been appreciated by the World Health Organization for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 virus.
The initial decisions that were taken by Pakistan included the suspension of all border flight operations to the affected countries that included China, Iran, and Afghanistan. With India, all such ties are already suspended since the IoK lockdown back in August 2019.

At all national airports, Pakistan has installed modern screening machines and also deployed screening teams at Iran and Afghanistan borders. Also, quarantine facilities and isolation wards have been established for both suspected and confirmed cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that as of yet five cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Pakistan. All of the confirmed cases have recently returned from Iran.
