Now the airline has announced that it is ending the 40% discount for senior citizens and disabled travelers.

PIA offered senior citizens, 65 and above a 20% discount on flights to and from the UK, the USA, Ireland, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Furthermore, the discount was also offered in domestic flights in economy, business, & economy plus flights.

To the disabled citizens, PIA was offering 40% discount along with 20% discount to their attendants on flights to Pakistan from Bombay, Delhi, Dhaka, Kabul

In order to save the airline from an early death, the current government is thinking to privatize the airline. Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz in a press conference informed that the government is only planning to privatize the core business which includes the management and flight operations of the airline, while the remaining business would continue being the government’s property. Furthermore, it was informed that the government will develop another company that will control all the PIA’s assets.

Furthermore, PIA also stopped its flights to major international destinations due to the financial crisis. Recently as per the official sources PIA from February 1st, 2018 stopped booking flights for Kuwait. Previously the airline halted its operations to the USA, going into a deep crisis. Also, PIA in November closed routes to three European destinations after it suspended flights to New York. The routes halted were Barcelona in Spain, Paris in France and Milan in Italy.

It is claimed by the airline management that it is suffering losses in billions. Due to lack of money, the service offered by PIA are inadequate thus it’s almost 50% international traveler load in now taken by other global airlines.

The recent decision of withdrawing discounts for senior citizens further proves that PIA is in need of some miracle.
