An investigation will be done on the appointment and salary of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CEO Dr Musharraf Rasool Cyan. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has asked for an investigation into not just PIA’s CEO’s appointment but also on the Air Safari project initiated by PIA, ever-increasing fares of PIA local flights and the usage of Markhor logo.
Chief justice during the hearing of suo motu case at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry said, “NAB should investigate the PIA CEO’s appointment and the salary and perks offered to him.”
Furthermore, the Chief Justice has asked to investigate the issues faced by travelers at the Skardu airport immediately after PIA started Air Safari service. A four-hour delay in the Skardu-Islamabad flight caused the passengers to suffer.
Justice Nisar was furious at the PIA’s CEO and asked NAB to start an investigation.
Cyan was questioned about the guest list for Air Safari and who granted the permission for air safari.
CJP asked, “Who gave permission for the air safari?” There were 112 passengers on board that flight of which 42 were guests. Were airfares taken from those 42 guest passengers?”
Cyan replied, “The 42 passengers were taken on the air safari for free.”
CJP ordered Cyan to pay for the 42 guest passengers tickets out of his own pocket.
He said, “You will pay for the tickets of the guest passengers from your own pocket.”
Justice Nisar queried from PIA CEO about the ticket cost for the Islamabad-Skardu flight. Cyan replied, “The ticket for the Islamabad-Skardu flight costs Rs12,300.”
Chief Justice responded, “These high airfares are damaging tourism,” the chief justice remarked.
Furthermore, a contempt of court notice has been issued to the CEO of PIA for using Markhor logo, disregarding the court’s order.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) started its Air Safari flight services to allow travelers to travel at the snowcapped peaks in northern Pakistan but it seemed that the idea is not working.
