The High Court of Peshawar on Thursday gave directives for the removal mobile towers installed near the educational institutions and the health facilities, as per the reports of local media.
A bench of the PHC comprises of Justice Qaiser Rasheed Khan and Justice Abdul Shakoor Khan has heard the case against the mobile phone base transceiver stations (BTS), commonly called the mobile phone towers, installed near the educational institutions and hospitals.
Justice Qaiser Rasheed had previously mentioned that the radiations coming out from the cellular phone towers causes life threatening diseases adding that nothing is worthy than human lives.
The representatives of the cellular network firms and officials of KP Environmental Protection Agency were at the court hearing.
The officials have given assurance to the PHC that a list of the cellular towers near the schools and hospitals would be drafted for removing and submitted to the court soon.
In a previous hearing session the court had asked for a comprehensive report from the KP Environmental Protection Agency for submitting a detailed report over the matter and has also informed the PHC regarding the adverse effects of the said BTS on human health.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by a citizen Mohammad Naeem who has made the claims that the installation of the BTS has bad effects on the health of human beings.
The counsel has claimed that various researchers on the subject have shown that there may be many health hazards of the microwaves emanating from BTS, which includes memory loss, cardiovascular stress, nervous system disorders, headache, miscarriages, etc.
The mobile phone towers are being seen on the rooftops of the plazas and at other places throughout the nation.
