The Peshawar High Court will be closed of its principal seat here until May 31. The reason for taking this step is that some of the staff members tested positive for the novel coronavirus. But just two single-member benches will hear bail pleas during this time period.
It has been made mandatory for all the staff members to submit an affidavit stating that neither them nor their immediate relatives have been diagnosed or suspected of suffering from coronavirus.
As per a notification issued by the high court registrar Khawaja Wajihuddin if employees are not able to file the affidavit, or produce any false claim in it, disciplinary proceedings will be taken against them under the Efficiency and Disciplinary (E &D) Rules.
As of yet it is not known how many staff members have been affected from the virus. But as per official sources 11 people have been effected. Most of the confirmed cases worked in the writ, criminal appeal and review first appeal branches.
Furthermore, the notification stated that the decision taken to close courts has been taken by the Chief Justice in light of public interest and protection of the judges, officers and staff of the principal seat from coronavirus
