Pemra issues notice for screening Amir Khan’s movie “Dangal”

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued show cause notice to Urdu 1 channel for airing Bollywood movie Dangal on Wednesday.

Board of Film Censors Pakistan didn’t give permission to Urdu 1 for airing the film, according to PEMRA there are several scenes in the film that were inappropriate to watch in Pakistan.

Therefore, PEMRA didn’t allow airing the particular movie in Pakistan but Urdu 1 channel aired full movie without being bothered about censorship in Pakistan.

The channel Urdu 1 has been given seven days to reply back PEMRA on that particular issue, PEMRA has also summoned CEO of Urdu 1 for a personal hearing, the content of the film was banned under PEMRA laws and Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

PEMRA on the other hand also received several complaints relating to the illegal airing of Bollywood movies “Wanted” and “Dabangg”.

Nina Kashif, GM Marketing at Urdu 1 said, “I have received a legal notice, this is not the first time we screened Dangal film, we also aired it on previous Eid, but I do not understand why PEMRA is creating issue this time”. Amir Khan demanded not to cut off the Indian Flag from the movie which wasn’t acceptable to PEMRA, she added.
