Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has put a ban of Dr. Amir Liaquat for 30 days from showing up on any Television Channel and TV program. PEMRA said in its ruling that he has violated the several sections of PEMRA Ordinance in a TV program a couple of days ago.
The electronic media regulator said in a notification issued that Amir Liaquat during the Ramadan Transmission on his channel on May 24, had transmitted live, un-edited and immediate” video call from Gurjat, the caller from Gujrat had raised a controversial religious issue.
PEMRA has acknowledged that the televangelist “Just for creating the sensation among masses and achieve maximum rating for the program has created an unwanted drama using the religion and hurt the sentiments of various Muslim sects and the public at large.”
According to PEMRA, the program’s content has violated Section 20(b), (c), (f) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 along with some others.
Amir Liaquat left the show after the incident, leaving the live platform for the guest clerics engaged in quite harsh arguments, the notification read.
