PEMRA Bans All Indian Produced TV Ads

A notice was issued by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to ban all Indian produced TV ads or any ads that have Indian talent and characters. On August 14th, 2019 this notice was issued.

On the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan, PEMRA has restated its withdrawal of the permission to air all Indian content and channels.

Due to the current escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir issue, all TVCs produced in India will be immediately removed from being aired, invoking Section 27(a) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007.

11 brands were highlighted by PEMRA that contain Indian elements in TV commercials including Dettol Soap, Surf Excel Powder, Pantene Shampoo, Head & Shoulders Shampoo, Lifebuoy Shampoo, Fogg Body Spray, Sunsilk Shampoo, Knorr Noodles, Sufi, Fair & Lovely Face Wash and Safeguard Soap.

The general public is divided over this move by PEMRA. Even though Pakistan is united over the Kashmir issue, some people feel that the local industry will get affected. All the production will have to be outsourced over to UAE and Thailand.
