The telecom industry is one of the rapidly growing divisions of Pakistan’s economy as the count of mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan has reached one hundred and fifty-one million by the end of July 2018, indicating significant growth with every passing month.
The telecom industry has seen a dramatic rise in the mobile broadband too. The penetration over the last five years has attained 57.32 million with teledensity 27.73. On the other hand, basic telephony subscribers are 3 million with teledensity being 1.30 per cent.
The users of mobile broadband are majorly higher than the fixed broadband users owing to the dominance of the mobile platform in the nation.
The statistics submitted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) indicated that the number of mobile phone users has reached 151 million by July 2018, in comparison to 145.99 million by the end of January 2018.
Mobilink Jazz’s total number of 3G users stood at 15.03 million by July-2018, in comparison to 14.54 million by January-2018. Jazz 4G user numbers hiked from 2.23 by January 2018 to 4.6 million by July-2018.
The Zong 3G subscribers reduced to 9.22 million by July-2018, from 9.08 million in the January of 2018, while the number of 4G users jumped from 1.88 million in January-2018 to 3.3 million by July-2018.
The number of 3G users of Telenor hiked from 10.75 million in January-2018 to 10.31 million by July-2018. The count of 4G users increased from 1.88 million in January-2018 to 3.3 million by July-2018.
The count of total Ufone subscribers reached 7.06 million by the end of July-2018 as they were at 6.630 million in the January of 2018.
An IT Ministry official said that the 4G network launch continued throughout the nation. By 2017, more than thirty per cent of Pakistan’s population was covered by the 4G network. Pakistan has seen a dramatic rise in the mobile broadband penetration over the past five years with market penetration hiking from below one per cent in 2012 to twenty-four per cent in 2017, the official added.
