Pakistan 5G Services: Pakistan Becomes First South Asian Country To Test 5G Services

Pakistan’s Information Technology Minister Anusha Rehman said, “Pakistan would be the first to test 5th generation mobile services in South Asia”.

Testing 5G services is new currently 5G services are not offered anywhere in the world but being tested, AT&T has recently invested $1.25 billion in order to test and start 5G services in the United States.

It would be a great sign towards ICT progress if Pakistan becomes the first state in South Asia to test and start 5G services.

IT minister while speaking to ICT awards ceremony Ms. Rehman said, “Pakistan recently won the GSMA award and ranked 3rd in mobile telecom operators groups”

Pakistan is also ranked 1st in the category of Telecom and Internet services competition according to Global ICT report 2015, which means Telecom sector due to intense competition in the market would strive to grab new opportunities and bring in innovation at any cost.

Speaking at the In­for­ma­tion Communication Tech­no­­logy (ICT) awards ceremony, Ms Rehman said: “Pakistan recently won the GSMA award and ranked third in the list of mobile telecom operator groups.”

The government was working on a project to provide at least one mobile tower per 100 users in every village by 2030, she added.

According to Dawn, she also said ICT is getting a boom in the country and internet penetration increased from three per cent to 27 percent in the last couple of years. “We are working towards making a digital Pakistan and digital economy through IT, freelance, start-ups, e-commerce and mobile apps are the future,” she said.

What government and their officials say is different from ground reality, in fact internet penetration, mobile usage, 3G and 4G services, freelancing, e-commerce and mobile apps development are all due to intense competition in telecom sector, these are the buy products of this competition. However, Pakistan is even getting worse in ICT progress according to Global ICT Report, 2015.

President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Amer Rightly said, the ICT sector had a market share of approximately $3 billion in Pakistan but no step was being taken by the government to promote the industry. Alone Islamabad and Rawalpindi accounts for 40% of total ICT business share.
