Pakistan will carry out 50,000 coronavirus tests per day starting from next week. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Afzal spoke to the journalists and said that a meeting took place at the National Command and Operations Center in which it was decided that the virus detection kits would be provided to all the concerned departments in Pakistan to improve the testing capacity.
He said that earlier on just the people who went for the test showed the symptoms of the virus but now randomized testing will be done.
The chairman said that 800,000 kits are available and effort is being made to procure more.
Back on 11th April NDMA received a medical consignment from China consisting of 59 ventilators. Other than this it contained 936kg of surgical masks, protective suits, safety lenses, thermometers, and 1,720 kg of unstitched cloth for surgical gowns. They were distributed to all provinces accordingly.
Earlier on Beijing sent medical equipment like PCR testing kits, mobile X-ray machines, Chinese KN95 masks, disposable medical masks, and water-impermeable surgical gowns to Pakistan.
Also, a team of Chinese doctors visited Pakistan carrying medical supplies along with the expertise to help Pakistan in the fight against the pandemic.
ISPR said, “The Chinese doctors who have expertise in treating infectious diseases shall support Pakistan’s efforts in fighting against COVID-19 situation for the coming two months.”
