There seems to be no effect of Coca-Cola on Pakistanis inherent taste of tea drinking however, there has been a massive campaign to provide a substitute for tea in TV commercials lately. The tea imports in the country saw an increase of 9.65 percent during the first 3 quarters of the current fiscal year 2017-18 as compared to the previous corresponding period of last year.
Pakistan has imported $450.932 million worth of tea during July-March (2017-18) as compared to $411.231 million which was recorded during July-March (2016-17), according to the data released by PBS.
Food imports in Pakistan have been on the rise overall, all food groups witness an increase of 4.51 percent during this period, according to the data total food group imports increased from $4.526 billion in the previous year to $4.730 billion in the current fiscal year.
Last year, it was reported that Pakistan tea imports were increased by 3.19 percent during July-May (2016-17) as compared to the previous corresponding period of July-May (2015-16). During the period July-May (2016-17) Pakistan imported 187,070 metric tons of tea.
But this time, there is a massive increase in tea imports which is almost 300% increase in the percentage of the increment within one year.
