The Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that all arrangements have been completed to resume the train operations. The train operations were suspended amid the coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan.
Rashid was talking to the Rawalpindi Railway Station after getting the consignment of masks and hand sanitizers, donated by China Railway Company. As per Rashid, Prime Minister Imran Khan will make the announcement to end the lockdown and resume train operations. 142 trains will resume operations within 24 hours.
The Minister inspected the quarantine center established in coaches at the Railway Station. He directed the authorities concerned to be alert in dealing with any kind of emergency.
In 40 trains, special quarantine centers have been set up. He said that till the last operational day, Pakistan Railways brought more than 165,000 passengers from Karachi on trains.
Furthermore, he revealed that the maintenance and repair work of all the coaches and locomotives was completed during the suspension of train operation. The Pakistan Railways staff worked day and night to complete the task.
The Minister was thankful to the China Railway Group for donating 5000 masks and sanitizers for CDL Workshop and Carriage Factory workers.
Also, Sheikh Rashid said that precautionary measures are being taken at all the railway stations of Pakistan against coronavirus and special quarantine gates are installed at the railway stations prepared by Pakistan Railways.
He said, “We have also ordered the purchase of 12 to 14 more ventilators for isolation centers while all railway hospitals across the country would be available to serve its employees in the wake of the coronavirus situation.”
