Pakistan Met Office Installs A New Radar System

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has installed a new radar system, under which 3 to 10 days weather forecast would be possible.

As per an official source of the Aviation Division, the new radar system would be inaugurated soon at the PMD for improving the short-range forecasting system for 3 to 10 days.

He said that the weather forecasting capability would get a boost with the installation of the new weather surveillance radar.

Under a project, he added that the formation of the specialized Medium-Range weather forecasting centre (SMRFC) and the strengthening of the weather forecasting system, as sponsored by JICA, installation of the weather radar, High-Performance Computing Cluster system and a Wind Profiler system, had also been installed by PMD Islamabad.

The new system has the capability of disseminating timely weather forecast and the warnings to the vulnerable districts and communities of Pakistan.

He also said that it would also be able to weigh the highly accurate rainfall intensity and to detect the weather situation.
