As per media reports and sources the date has been finalized for Pakistan General Elections 2018. They will be held on July 25th. A summary has been sent to President Mamnoon Hussain by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to confirm this date.
It is also reported that the President will soon approve this summary and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would then confirm the elections 2018 schedule.
Three dates have been suggested by the Election Commission of Pakistan for next elections. The three dates are from July 25th to July 27th. The commission proposed that next polls date is selected under the act of 2017 (57)1 from July 25 to 27.
Before this, Election Commission of Pakistan said that it is fully ready to conduct the Pakistan general elections 2018. The Spokesman to the Election Commission Chaudhry Nadeem Qasim said that it is the law that general elections will be held within the 60 days after the end of present government’s term.
National Assembly’s five-year term and Punjab Assembly term will end on May 31st while the Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan assemblies will end their terms by May 28th.
Therefore a senior Election Commission of Pakistan official said, “Since a single date for the polls is to be announced, the general election is supposed to be conducted before July 28.”
He also said, “According to the law, the commission was required to announce the schedule for the polls within seven days of the announcement of the election date.”
It is pertinent to mention here that NADRA increased the CNIC fee ahead of the general elections 2018.
For Pakistan General Elections 2018 around 85,000 polling stations and 285,000 polling booths will be established so that it is easier for voters to vote. At the most sensitive polling stations, security cameras will be installed to ensure that the whole voting procedure is transparent.
