It was announced by Pakistan that it is extending an ongoing border closure for another couple of weeks due to a surge in novel coronavirus cases in Pakistan.
As per an Interior Ministry statement the decision has been taken to extend the closure of borders with India, China, Afghanistan and Iran in accordance to the government’s strategy of controlling the spread of coronavirus.
But two main crossing points between Pakistan and Afghanistan will remain open three days a week. This will be open for cargo trucks.
Pakistan has closed its borders with neighboring countries on March 16th for two weeks. Later it was extended till April 14 and now the latest extension is till April 28.
Currently Islamabad is mulling over extending a countrywide lockdown by a week. In this lockdown all educational institutes, shopping centers, markets, government and private offices will be closed except for emergency services.
Also the railway, inter-city transport and domestic air operations have been suspended. The number of coronavirus cases in the country have crossed 5477 mark with around 100 deaths. So far around 1095 patients have revectored as per the Health Ministry of the country.
Since last December over 1.85 million COVID-19 cases has been reported in 185 countries. Europe and the U.S have been worst hit by the pandemic.
