The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) declared a downfall in inflation of 0.23% due to reducing food prices.

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) is calculated on the basis of food prices of 51 important items collected from 50 markets from 17 different cities of Pakistan.

A recent report was compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) which said this decrease was witnessed highly because of the decline in prices of food items. The essential food items included onions – down by 4.75%; chicken – down by 1.49%; wheat flour – down by 1.31%; gur – down by 1.26%; moong pulse – down by 1.03%; mash pulse -down by 0.02%. The overall impact of minus 0.28% reported in the SPI.

However, an increase of 1% (or more) was observed in prices of tomatoes – up by 1.57%, tea – up by 1.43%, and potatoes – up by 1%.

During the past week, rates of 14 different food items went up while some 11 food products witnessed a decline. It was also reported that some 26 food items remained unchanged in prices.
