Germanwatch has positioned Pakistan on the second spot among nations experiencing economic losses owing to the serious global climatic changes.
Malik Amin Aslam—the Adviser to the PM on Climate Change said this on Thursday while addressing a public gathering of the Climate Change Caucus. The session was headed by Senator Sherry Rehman.
The Adviser said that the problem of climate change has become politically significant. He quoted examples from the recent past like the melting of the Shisper Glacier which is a live occurrence where a kilometre-long glacier with 3-kilometre thickness is rising from a mountain top.
The assistant to the Prime Minister unveiled that the glacier rushed forward 3kilometer in the span of 6 months which was a horrible sight as a large chunk of the population is sitting in the middle of its flowing direction.
He appreciated the measures that have been taken by the National Disaster Management Authority and the district government and said that this now what Pakistan dreamt of. He added that they are tolerating the brunt of the issues created by others and it not because of their indigenous efforts.
The Chairperson Climate Caucus, Senator Sherry Rehman also spoke on the occasion. She lauded the parliament for considering and treating climate change as an emergency issue as the nation is facing its effects in every single season.
