Iftikhar Shalwani—the Karachi Commissioner has sparked a new debate on social media on Saturday when he issued a directive that people are required to place flowers on the balconies of their residences instead of drying laundry.
The commissioner tweeted on his social media handle that there should no laundry on the balconies only flowers should be there. He tweeted his post with a picture showing a balcony decorated with fresh flowers.
The social media users criticized the commissioner for what they referred to as his myopic vision of not taking into consideration that people might not have a lot of space to dry clothes.

While many people have appreciated his resolution for beautifying the city, others were confused as to where they would be putting their wet clothes for drying.
As per the reports, the directives would be followed by a campaign that would see that the authorities putting flowers in the areas in closer proximity to the Jinnah International Airport—Karachi.
It is pertinent to mention, that 2 years back the government of Kuwait took a similar kind of decision and banned hanging laundry on balconies for drying purposes. As per the reports, the decision was taken for maintaining the beauty of the city.
