Dr Tariq Banuri—the chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Saturday informed that measures are being adopted for starting the online degree verification process.
While addressing a news conference in the federal capital, the HEC chairman said that the information technology is being boosted via the “Smart University Programme”.
He also said that a policy is being made for the first time for the provision of facilities to special students. He mentioned that the policy would make sure that no special student may remain ignored from acquiring the higher education because of disability.
He further said that if any foreign university wishes to make their campus in Pakistan, they would be welcomed and encouraged to do so.
But, he mentioned that the international universities would have to get the approval first from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Interior Ministry.
Previously HEC introduced eight thousand free online courses for the students in a joint venture with the COURSERA. The students who received a laptop under the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme could apply for their preferred course and that too without any charges. Admissions would be provided on the first come first get basis.
The step taken by the Higher Education Commission for the introduction of the online degree verification process is a good one as it would provide ease to the applicants who want to get their educational degrees verified from HEC.
