Oman would be placing a bar on the single-use plastic bags starting from next year as part of the efforts for reducing pollution and to protect the environment, as announced by Muscat on Sunday.
The country is situated in the South of the Arabian Penisula. The nation stands out among its Gulf neighbours for its exceptional natural mountainous landscapes and the rich marine life.
The ministry of environment and the climate affairs mentioned in a statement that firms and establishments are barred from using single-use plastic bags with the objective of protecting the environment of Oman.

It issued warning that the violators would be facing fines of up to 2,000 Omani riyals when the ban would be imposed on the 1st of January 2021, with repeating offenders be getting fined double the amount.
As per the United Nations, Oman which has become famous as a travel destination for its desert camping and turtle-watching has attracted 2.3 million tourists in 2018.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has issued a warning that the plastic bags are often eaten by the turtles and dolphins who mistakenly take them as food.
