Oil reserves have been discovered near the Rawalpindi District Gujar Khan, Punjab. Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) in collaboration with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has made the discovery.
The discovery was made at an exploratory well Dharian-l ST-3 as per a stock filing. It was drilled in the Ghauri Exploration License near Gujar Khan.
Basically, Mari is Ghauri Exploration License’s operator having 65% working interest shared with 35% interest holder Pakistan Petroleum.
In Ghauri block, this is a second consecutive discovery by the Ghauri Joint Venture. Back on 21st December 2017, the well was spud in. It was drilled to 4,770m MD/4,472m TVD aiming to test the potential of hydrocarbon of the Sakessar and Khewra formations.
It is being planned by Ghauri JV to start the Dharian-l ST-3 discovery evaluation. It will be put on test production for this purpose. It is pertinent to mention here that the first ever discovery in Ghauri Block was made back in 2014 at exploratory well Ghauri X-I. It is currently under production.
Ghauri JV aims to drill the 3rd exploratory well that is Miraj-l in order to continue tapping the hydrocarbon resources.
