Co-founder of the German vaccine-maker, BioNTech Ugur Sahin and the mastermind behind the Coronavirus vaccine co-developed with the American pharmaceutical company, Pfizer has revealed that COVID-19 vaccine effects will begin to appear over the summer and the normal life will begin by next winter.
It was revealed by Sahin during an interview with BBC BioNTech and Pfizer vaccine could halve the transmission rate of the Coronavirus disease, resulting in a significant decline in the number of cases.
When asked about the exact timeframe in which the COVID-19 vaccine will be made available, Sahin said that if everything goes as per the plan, the vaccine will be delivered at the end of 2020 and the start of 2021.
He also said that both companies plan to deliver more than 300 million doses around the world by the end of April 2021.
On 9 September, BioNTech and Pfizer, in a joint statement, has made the announcement regarding the preliminary results of the Phase-III clinical trials of their COVID-19 vaccine, declaring that the drug offers up to 90% protection against the viral infection with no side effects.
Both companies had tested the vaccine on 43,500 volunteers during the last stage trials that were simultaneously held across 6 countries.
