As per an Italian researcher on Tuesday, the world should not expect a vaccine for stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus and must instead opt for the quarantine measures.
The US President Donald Trump on Monday said to the heads of the top of the pharma firms to speed up their efforts in terms of finding a vaccine. He also dismissed the recommendation that holding large campaigns were unwise while the virus was spreading, declaring it unsafe.
Massimo Galli, the director of the Biomedical Research Institute in Milan whose team isolated the Italian strain of the virus last month, informed sources that exactly the opposite of this was true.
Galli in an interview said that he would be very happy if it was confirmed that the vaccine could be made ready by April. He also said that he thinks that this epidemic would not stop thanks to a vaccine, which would not be coming soon. He added that it is a better pill to swallow but quarantine steps and the limitation of the individual movements in the most affected areas would help in stopping the spread of the disease.
Italy a country of 60 million people has quarantined 11 towns in its northern epicentre, with some 50,000 residents barred from leaving for more than a week. Bars, libraries, schools, churches, town halls and museums have all been shut in the quarantine zone.
Galli said that it was too early to say whether these steps have worked or not. It was further added that they would not know that very soon and it would take days and he hopes not weeks.
