A bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by the Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed directed the authorities to appear on Tuesday.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court took strong exception to the age-old manual record-keeping system of the Pakistan Railways, which he said meant Rs75,000 could easily be siphoned off from payment of a sum of Rs100,000 into pockets with a trifle 25,000 shown in records.
During the hearing, a member of the bench Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan said that Pakistan Railways has been raking billions of losses which is evident from the audit report of the department.
