Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced three recent oil and gas discoveries. While announcing them he said that the current government has made 101 oil and gas discoveries in past four years.
The minister did accept this that till now the government has been unsuccessful in making any mineral-rich discovery in Baluchistan. He was asked about the reason of no discovery being made in Baluchistan to which he replied that it is a concerning issue and steps are being made to resolve it.
In the Press Conference, the Minister said that all recent finds have been in Sindh by E&P companies. These companies are PEL, OGDCL and United Energy Pakistan. The discoveries would enable 52.5 mmcfd gas and 765 bpd oil.
In response to a question, Mr Abbasi said that in the next winter season there would be zero gas load-shedding. In certain areas, there could be a problem due to low pressure which is being eradicated.
Abbasi also gave details on where PEL, OGDCL and United Energy found the discoveries. PEL made a discovery in Badin-IV North Exploration License at Zainab-I of 24 mmcfd gas and 765 barrels of oil. This is the first discovery by PEL.
OGDCL made 15 mmcfd gas discoveries in Thal. United Energy Pakistan discovered in Mirpurkhas 13.5 mmcfd gas. Abbasi also informed that 87 discoveries were made in Sindh and 7 each was made in KPK and Punjab, out of total 101 discoveries.
In Baluchistan there has been no oil and gas discovery due to certain reason, now the Ministry is are inviting E&P companies to start exploration activities in the province. The government companies are also encouraged to start operating in Baluchistan.
Gas theft query was also answered by the Minister, he said that SNGPL and SSGCL have cut the gas that is unaccounted and they are working to completely overcome this issue. To another question Minister said that there were postponements in the north-south pipeline, now the blockage is removed so everything would work smoothly from now on.
