NHA Planning to Extend Lahore-Sialkot Motorway to Khariyan

National Highway Authority (NHA) is pondering on the plan of extending the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway up to Khariyan by the construction of a new motorway from Sialkot to Khariyan under the Build Operator and Transfer (BOT) model.

An Official of the National Highway Authority informed that NHA has issued a tender for the consultation services relating the feasibility analysis and preliminary design of the Sambrial to Khariyan Motorway Project. This project would be under the Public Private Partnership arrangement.

The motorway in the discussion would be beginning from the end-point of the Lahore to Sialkot Motorway at Sambrial, hence giving Khariyan a motorway connectivity to Lahore.

A pre-proposal meeting is scheduled on Wednesday that is the 29th of November at the headquarters of the National Highway Authority in Islamabad.

It is important to mention that the Lahore-Sialkot motorway (LSM) is also built on the BOT model.

The motorway project would be reducing the distance between Lahore and Sialkot and would also be providing connectivity to remote areas with big cities.

The mega project would not just be providing faster inter-city traveling but would also enhance economic conditions of the area. It would also be opening multiple opportunities for employment in the region. The Lahore-Sialkot motorway would be starting from Sahowala-Sambrial and would be ending at Kala Shah Kaku passing through Daska, Kamonki, and Gujranwala.

Such projects are beneficial in many aspects for the public as they not only improve the traveling times and distances but also brings in many job opportunities for the people of that area.
